The LS600hL is a high-end luxury car with a high-end price tag. With this sedan, you’ll get the best interior, features, and performance Lexus has to offer. Is this luxury car worth the hefty price tag, though? Take a closer look with our detailed 2014 Lexus LS600hL review below to find out.
Just one option here: LS600hL
Exterior and Styling
The design of the LS600hL conveys luxury and elegance. The spindle grille is accented by LED headlights and fog lamps. Bold lines run from the front to the back, and the curved roof offers a sporty look and better aerodynamics. A premium paint finish and 19″ alloy wheels complete the attractive look.
Interior and Comfort
You’ll be hard-pressed to find a nicer interior than the one found in the 600hL. The trim has been redesigned for 2014, but the changes are subtle. The high-quality leather is the best that Lexus makes, and grain-matched wood trim is also high quality and plentiful throughout. Upgrading to the Executive Package adds a reclining rear-passenger seat with massage function as well as an ottoman for ultimate luxury. On the downside, features like the on-board refrigerator and hybrid system components make for limited storage space in the trunk.
This sedan also offers four-zone climate control, and the plush, comfortable seats have climate-comfort technology. The in-dash display with satellite navigation is one of the biggest you’ll find at 12.3″. For entertainment, a DVD player is available, and the 450-watt, 19-speaker sound system is impressive.
Under the Bonnet
The 600hL has a 5.0 L V8 hybrid engine that offers good fuel economy for its size–right around 8 L / 100 km. Although the engine is powerful, the weight of the vehicle pushes the 0-100 km acceleration time closer to 6 seconds.
On the Road
The engine noise is basically non-existent in the cabin, even when accelerating quickly. Steering is precise, the ride is smooth, and aero-stabilizing fins increase the overall stability. The driver can choose among four different suspension settings from comfort to sport +. The comfort setting provides the softest ride, while the sport+ offers the most control when going around turns.
The LS600hL received good ratings for safety. We’re impressed with the vast array of high-tech safety features that include a Dynamic Radar Cruise Control system, which applies the brakes or reduces the throttle when it gets too close to the vehicle in front of you, backup camera, Intuitive Parking Assist, and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, which notifies you of vehicles outside your view when backing out of parking spots.
Value for the Money
The luxury sedan is in the $200,000 segment of luxury cars. If you’re OK with spending that kind of money, what you’ll get in return is a vehicle with the highest-quality interior around, an incredibly smooth ride, and a shedload of high-tech features.
The BMW 7 Series is the main competitor of the LS600hL. Lower-end 7 Series models, if you can call $200,000 lower end, have 6-cylinder engines but still offer a similar 0-100 km acceleration time and slightly better fuel economy compared to the 600hL. Though they have comparable features, many of the options on the 7 Series come standard on the 600hL.
You might want to find a 2014 Lexus LS600hL for sale if you’re looking for the best interior and features Lexus has to offer. When it comes to a smooth ride and beautiful interiors, few luxury sedans can match this one. On the other hand, if you would prefer a more engaging driving experience in a luxury sedan, the 7 Series will likely suit you better.
